Department of Natural Resources

24 Hour Animal Incident Hotline: 1-800-565-2224
This hotline connects to the Shubie/Hants East DNR, and is good for reporting deer hit by cars, sick raccoons asleep on people's porches, and that type of incident.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) handles fishing and hunting licenses, burning permits and salt water wharf applications for Halifax West.

DNR has management responsibility for Lorrie Park, Rainbow Haven, and Oakfield Park. The Waverley office also features a boat launch for local residents.

Burning Permits: Due to new law, you need to obtain two burning permits: one from DNR, and one from your local Fire Department.

Wharf Applications: DNR only handles salt water wharf applications. For fresh water wharf applications, contact the Department of the Environment.

Boat Launch: The boat launch at our Portobello Road office is old and no longer maintained. There is a much newer launch in Oakfield Park, which also has wheelchair access.

For forms and much more information, visit The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources Website.
